The baroque statue commemorates the Czech holy man who was considered to be patron of water. Clergyman Jan of Nepomuk died on 20 March 1939 as a martyr because he had declined to reveal shrift secret, for which he had been tortuted and thrown to the Vltava river afterwards. On 19 March 1729 the pope Benedikt VIII. declared him a holy man.
